Welcome to Seattle's Volunteer Park.

Park History: In 1876, the year of the nation's centennial, the City of Seattle purchased 40 acres of land from a man named J.M. Colman for $2,000. For the first couple of years the law said that the City had to use the land as a cemetery but then the law was amended to make the land into "Lake View Park." In the late 19th and early 20th century many improvements were made and amenities built including walking trails, a wading pool, and a comfort pavilion. Much of the work was done by the famous Olmstead Brothers.

In 1901 the park was renamed Volunteer Park to honor the men who volunteered during the Spanish American War. Today this park boasts walking trails, lighted tennis courts, and much more for the residents and visitors of Seattle. Come on out and have a blast! Both the playgrounds and the restrooms are ADA accessible.
