Welcome to Matthews/Winter Park nestled at the foot of the Hogback Range in the Rocky Mountain Foothills just off of Interstate 70.

Park History: The first 68 acres of Matthews/Winter Park were purchased by Jefferson County in 1973 with an additional 510 acres purchased in 1976 from a California Dr. named William Winters. In 1982, an additional 357 acres were purchased from Nicholas Matthews. This land is of great importance due to its location at the entrance of Mount Vernon Canyon, major gateway to the Colorado Rockies. Many miners of the Gold Rush used this canyon to access South Park and Central City. The mining days led to the establishment of many mountain towns including Golden City and Mount Vernon. The economies of these cities were crushed during the Civil War and many did not survive.

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts numerous multipurpose trails and awesome mountain views. Come on out and explore!
