Welcome to North Table Mountain Park, located in the Rocky Mountain foothills just west of Denver, Colorado.

History: This park's landscape has a volcanic history that was formed by lava flows from the nearby Ralston Dike. Hundreds of years later, the landscape was transformed into several different types of habitats including lichen rock gardens, grasslands, and cliffs. In 1993, the Colorado Natural Heritage Program designated this land as a conservation site.

Wildlife: This mountain is home to numerous wild animals including prairie dogs, deer, numerous birds of prey, and many others. When visiting please remember that you are a guest in their home and treat their home with respect.

For the human visitor, opportunities at this conservation park are relatively limited but people are allowed to hike on the designated trails. Come out and explore.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on May 15, 2015.
