Murphy Square Park
Welcome to Murphy Square Park located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota right next to Augsburg College Though it is small in size, this park is of no minor significance, this is the oldest park in the City of Minneapolis. It used to be owned by a man named Edward Murphy (No known relation to today's Eddie Murphy), who donated the land to the City of Minneapolis in 1857 after seeing New York City establish it's world famous Central Park. Though the City first acquired the land in 1857, it was not until 1884, after years of lobbying for funding for the park's improvement from a former cow pasture into a beautiful urban playground, that the land was finally established as Murphy Square Park. The well known and well respected Theodore Wirth helped make many improvements to this park over the years.
