Laramie Park
Welcome to Laramie Park located in Skokie, Illinois. In 1955 a referendum was passed that led to the purchase of 17 different parcels of land to be used as parks. One of these parcels included the land that is now Laramie Park. Development of the park's amenities occurred over the years including the addition of the Laramie Neighborhood Community Center in 1962 and a lighted baseball field in 1974. In 1991 the park underwent a major overhaul in which she got new trash cans, new picnic tables, drainage improvements, a new basketball court, paved walkways, a sand volleyball court, new plants, and improvements to the baseball field. In the end, the total price tag reached $288K. Scenes from the 1992 movie "A League of Their Own" starring Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell were filmed inside Laramie Park. Come on out and have fun! The basketball courts are two full courts and the two volleyball courts are sand courts.
