Welcome to Chatfield State Park situated on the banks of the South Platte River in the rolling foothills 25 miles southwest of downtown Denver in the town of Littleton. For the lover of the outdoors Chatfield State Park boasts miles of multipurpose trails, 197 campsites (several with hookups), boat ramps, and so much more. Come on out and have fun.

Park History: The land that is now Chatfield State Park helped support the State's first cattle and timber industries. Lt. Isaac Chatfield, a soldier of the Civil War, purchased 720 acres of land at the confluence of Plum Creek and the South Platte River in 1870. He occupied and farmed the land until he moved away in 1879. Today the park still bears his name. Throughout the early 20th century the area was devastated by many floods. Some of the most devastating floods were in 1933, 1935, 1942, and 1965. In 1967, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a dam in order to help control the flooding problem. Finally in 1976, Chatfield State Park was established.

Flora and Fauna: helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the boundaries include blazing stars, white prairie clovers, hairy golden asters, and many others. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include rabbits, prairie dogs, bears, deer, bald eagles, white pelicans, and herons. Please treat their home with respect.

The park office number is 303-791-7275.
