Welcome to Roxborough State Park located just a short drive southwest of downtown Denver, is known for it's unique red-rock formations including the Fountain Formation, the Lyons Formation, and the Dakota Hogback. These formations are over 1.2 billion years in age. It offers many great photographic and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors of the Denver area 12 months a year. However please note that pets are not allowed in the park and rock climbing is strictly prohibited anywhere on the park grounds. The trails are only allowed for hiking, no bikes and no horses. The parks trails have a 1,000 foot elevation difference and connect to other trails in the Douglas County park system. The park also provides wildlife habitat for many species including, mountain lions, golden eagles, bobcats, mule deer and black bears. Come out and explore.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on April 27, 2015.
